The American Boating and Yacht Council publishes the definitive specifications for design, testing and construction of watercraft. Building a custom yacht without ABYC compliance would be foolhardy. They even publish compliance guidelines to the confusing USCG Federal Regulations (I purchased the 2 shown at right) which make adherence to the CFRs much easier. Enough said! visit their web site for more information. |

| Calder, Nigel. Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical
Manual - 2nd ed. ISBN 0-07-009618-X ©1996 International
Marine div of The McGraw-Hill Companies. This is the most comprehensive work that I have ever read. ABYC references it! It has been a priceless resource. Nigel even disputes some regulations, when deemed appropriate, and backs his arguments with logical, compelling technical aptitude. Every boatowner, designer and builder should own a copy. |

| Technical Committee of the Cruising Club of America. Desirable and Undesirable Characteristics
of Offshore Yachts ISBN 0-393-03311-2 ©1987 The Cruising Club of America Although focused on high-performance monohull sailboats, the plethora of valuable information in this compilation work was quite useful in my design endeavors. |

| Jeffrey, Kevin. Sailor's Multihull Guide to the best
cruising catamarans and trimarans - 3rd ed. ISBN 0-9627562-8-8
©2002 Avalon House Publishing This is a compilation of works by some of the most qualified authors alive. The comprehensive listing of current boat models substantiates my decision to custom-build SEDATION 4 since, albeit there are many fine vessels on the market, none have the combination of features which I require. |

| Kanter, Charles E. Cruising in Catamarans ISBN
0-9618406-6-8 SAILco Press ©2002
Charles E. Kanter Chuck Kanter is, arguably, the "guru" of multihull yachting. This book is a practical, "no holds barred" overview of the industry, nuances and lifestyle of live-aboard multihull cruising. Anyone planning to charter, buy or build a multihull vessel should own this book! Many current monohull power- and sail-boat owners could be easily persuaded to convert after reading this compelling work. |

| Larsson, Lars and Eliasson, Rolf E. Principles of Yacht Design
ISBN 0-07-036492-3 International Marine ©1994 Lars Larsson and Rolf E. Eliasson Another monohull-oriented technical work with an abundance of valuable information. This book was very useful during the early design phase of SEDATION 4. |

| Slocum, Joshua Sailing Alone Around the World
ISBN 1-84212-085-9 First published in Great Britain by
Samson Law 1900 Although not a technical reference, this classic travelogue provided food-for-thought and the inspiration to give up my landlubber ways. Slocum's writing style is captivating but the numerous references to old-time ships and nautical terminology can be somewhat confusing. I recommend a copy of The American Heritage Junior Library's Clipper Ships and Captains as a companion piece to this book. My third reading was much more enjoyable with it as a reference. |

| White, Chris The
Cruising Multihull ISBN 0-07-069868-6 ©1990/1997 International Marine div.
McGraw-Hill Companies Chris White is a genius in the field of high-performance multihull design. His boats are fast and seaworthy. Although I am not willing to compromise certain amenities for speed, his book provided several aspects of the design envelope for SEDATION 4. |
