SEDATION 4  Design &
Technical Information
All the high-tech Computer AIDED Design (C.A.D. - notice the emphasis on "Aided") would be superfluous without well defined goals and a systematic approach to creating a vessel that fulfills a definitive set of objectives.  The Design Overview outlines my initial criteria for this monumental task.  Months of travel and research, studying hundreds of boats first-hand, combined with decades of boating experience helped me to concentrate the Details of the project into a plan for the overall design.

A comprehensive 3-D Solid Model of the yacht was created before any fabrication commenced.  The results justify this high-end approach.

No live-aboard yacht would be complete without a proper sound system.  As a long-time audiophile, I allowed  acoustic requirements to heavily influence the overall layout of accommodations.  There's no such thing as a "perfect" yacht so compromises must be made.  I refuse to compromise when it comes to musical enjoyment, hence the elaborate design of Audio Systems aboard.

Raised pilothouses are uncommon in any size catamaran and this PilotHouse's "Basement Floor"  design is unique in several aspects.

The self-supporting (un-stayed) Balestron rig design of SEDATION 4 features a radical Boom Design which is light and minimizes windage with a deceivingly simple appearance.

Admittedly boring, but Calculations and Analysis are essential to any design effort.  More work-in-progress items will be posted here as systems are installed.

Though I am, now, predisposed toward a "green" propulsion-less sailing configuration, extensive research into engine installation options has been enlightening.  Somebody else may prefer to burn fossil fuels, so this information is offered for consideration.

ERGONOMIC aspects of the vessels design are explained in detail with logical examples of "form-follows-function" implementations.

The unique LABYRINTH FLOORPLAN optimizes usable space by eliminating most doors, yet provides privacy and assures comfortable air-flow in any weather.

Vessels require a means to steer and proper Rudder Design is essential in achieving respectable performance from a large, shallow draft, cruising catamaran.

Reducing the quantity of thru-hull fitting enhances both reliability and serviceability.  This is accomplished using old-fashioned Sea Chests.

Proper VENTILATION is essential to any live-aboard yacht's design.  Living comfortably sans air-conditioning and its requisite noisy generator is delightful!

Projects like this require substantial resources and the SEDATION 4 design would not exist without these essential references
